Colosseum watercolor

Work-in-process; watercolor on wondeful Fabriano 300 pound paper.

When what you leave out is just as important as what you include...

Lemon filled, 4" x 4", oil on board

This is the second of my small donut paintings.  This one was something of a struggle but I think I eventually pulled it off, so I have a particular fondness for it.

Donut paintings at Union Square Donuts

These are hanging at Union Square Donuts in Somerville until May 13.  It's fun to see them hanging in the store, so check them out if you are the mood for a delicious treat.

Night scene on Foskett - study of narrow value range

This is a work in process - oil on panel.  It's the same night image that I painted a few months ago in watercolor.

It's really interesting to paint the darks in such a close value range.  Actually, it's quite tricky to even see the range while painting since the sheen on the paint obscures the value and hue.  So of course it's a welcome challenge.

Castiglione di Sicilia, July 2016

Powdered Jelly Donut, oil on panel, 4" x 4"

This is a very small oil painting on panel that I painted mostly from life.  It's a little scary how many weeks the jelly donut maintained its shape while I painted it.

Clementine, Oil on paper, 4"x4"

Another very small painting.  This photo really doesn't capture the sensitivity of the modeled form as you travel around the clementine.

Yellow roses, oil on paper, 4"x4"

This is the first of some 4" x 4" paintings.  I thought it would be a great way to learn some paint handling skills in a size that I can somewhat quickly finish.
